Our social work program offers an array of services to our patients. One of these services is bill counseling. Many of our patients find themselves with large bills after an unexpected hospital day. Fortunately, each hospital system in Richmond has programs to help low-income uninsured people reduce and sometimes clear their expensive bills. Our social workers help our patients navigate these programs.

Often, patients arrive on bill counseling days feeling insecure, worried, and anxious, wondering how can they pay their bills since they have a low income and sometimes no income at all.

Ryan was no exception. This spring, Ryan, came to our Henrico Clinic with 18 assorted bills, totaling more than $8,000, from recent hospital stays. He was desperately concerned about his debt and afraid he would lose his house and car. Ede Bahia, one of our social workers, helped him with his paper work and told him where and when he needed to go to the apply for assistance. Two months later, he came back with good news!

All of his bills had been written off entirely. He had such a big smile on his face and came to thank CrossOver for helping him to overcome this burden!
