Virginia Health Care Foundation Helps CrossOver Expand Its Dental Program

CrossOver Ministry has been serving the medical needs of Richmond's uninsured for over 25 years.  CrossOver has offered some level of dental services since 1982, and in 2008 provided dental care to 700 adult patients through 969 visits.  With the exception of a part-time dental assistant, all dental care is provided by a cadre of 26 dedicated volunteer dentists.  This has resulted in dentists providing comprehensive services including cleaning and scaling teeth, and other functions within the scope of services of dental assistants and hygienists.  With an $81,000 grant from the Virginia Health Care Foundations, CrossOver Ministry will be able to expand its capacity and increase the dental clinic's efficiency by hiring a part-time dental assistant and a part time dental hygienist to provide the "non-dentist" services currently undertaken by the dentis, allowing the dentists to utilize expertise.  Altogether, CrossOver Ministry projects that this additional staff will enable the clinic to expand services to approximately 500 additional patients through 1,000 patient visits.  Thank you to the Virginia Health Care Foundation for helping CrossOver to expand its dental care to people in need!

The Virginia Health Care Foundation is a non-profit public/private partnership dedicated to increasing access to primary health care for uninsured and medically underserved Virginians by strengthening and growing Virginia’s health care safety net. The Foundation was initiated by the General Assembly and the Joint Commission on Health Care in 1992.  Since its inception, it has funded 299 community based projects across the Commonwealth, and its programs and partnerships have touched the lives of more than 500,000 uninsured Virginians.
